MESSAGE CONCERNING MAP FROM MS. DW
Parents/Guardians,
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Reading make ups will be administered on Tuesday, June 1st. Students will be notified via Synergy email as to the time and Google Meet Code.
MAP Math make ups will be administered on Wednesday, June 3rd, beginning at 8:45 AM. Students will also be notified via Synergy email as to the Google Meet Codes.

Please Return EMMS Media Books/Materials: Students, please take some time to locate overdue library books and play-a-ways that you borrowed either from our EMMS Media Center or from your elementary schools last year. You may return all media items to the permanent return bin in front of EMMS 24/7! Returning Textbooks: There are three ways for you to return borrow textbooks.

Bring the textbook back with you when you come to a distribution event.

You are welcome to drop off any textbooks any weekday 7 am to 3 pm. There is a cart in the vestibule on the left that you may simply place the book there.

Please feel free to drop the textbook in the Media Center bin located under the overhang at the top of the bus loop any day, any time.

NEWS From Our Feeder High Schools
Centennial High School:

Are you interested in public speaking, theater, law, or debate? Then, Empire Mock Trial is perfect for you! All current 8th graders attending 9th grade at CHS are welcome. Empire Mock Trial is a team at Centennial High School focused on real-world mock trial cases with opportunities to grow their skills during fun & competitive trials. Students compete as attorneys and witnesses during the fall against other states and countries. Practices take place during the summer and continue into the beginning of the school year. Competitors are able to learn from real lawyers and judges with high-ranking positions in our legal system. Being our 7th Empire competition, Centennial is bringing its years of experience to the competition this fall. Most recently, Centennial placed as Division Champions & State Co-Finalists in Maryland this past regular season. Centennial Empire Mock Trial has a history of excellence with numerous top attorney & top witness awards/rankings over the past several years. If you're interested in learning more, join our interest meeting on 6/2 (10:30AM-12:30PM).
Auditions and interviews will be taking place during mid-June (towards the end of the school year & after AP exams). ALL students are welcome, regardless of experience. Students will be able to learn along the way, and the team will be hosting two workshops for students to learn about the audition case later next week. [NEW] Meals Revisions for May 27 through June 1: With schools being closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 31, adjustments to meals pickups are in effect for May 27-June 1. See details.
[NEW] Pfizer Vaccination Clinics for HCPSS Students:
HCPSS students aged 12 and older, as well as their eligible family and friends, are invited to make an appointment to receive the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. A limited number of appointment slots are available. Additional information about these clinics is available online.
[REMINDER] 2021-2022 Course Requests: Families of and students currently in grades 5-7 can view 2021-2022 course requests in HCPSS Connect Synergy through Thursday, May 20. Families of and students in grades 5-11 will be able to view confirmed 2021-2022 courses prior to the end of this school year. Learn more.
[REMINDER] Returning HCPSS Devices: Students leaving HCPSS after the current 2020-2021 school year, including those unenrolling or graduating, must return their assigned HCPSS technology devices, including laptops, Chromebooks, etc. Students who will remain in HCPSS schools for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year may continue to borrow HCPSS technology devices over the summer. Free Meals: As a reminder, all students, whether in-person, hybrid or virtual, can receive school meals at no cost to families.

COMMUNITY NEWS / EVENTS
HCPSS Community News / Events: Families can quickly discover educational and recreational resources, events, and after-school programs offered by community non-profits on HCPSS’s new Community News and Programs website.
Free Parenting Classes: HC DrugFree and the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, partnering with HCPSS and the Health Department, will once again provide evidence-based classes for families to gain skills and knowledge to reduce the risk that their children will engage in risky behaviors including using drugs. This 4-class series for parents of 9 to14-year-olds will be held on Zoom from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 1, 8.
