Spring 2021 MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Assessment

MAP Reading will be administered on Wednesday, May 19th, to students in Grades 6, 7, and 8.  Note: All Grade 8 GT ELA students (first or second semester) are exempt.    Students who are virtual on Wednesdays will complete the assessment from home and ‘E’ Day students who are testing will report to EMMS at the regular time.    MAP Reading will be administered from 8:45 to 11:15 AM. 

MESSAGE TO CURRENT 8th GRADE STUDENTS:
T-Shirt Size needed by 3:30 pm, Monday 5/17

The EMMS 8th Grade Team requires your T-shirt size no later than 3:30pm on 5/17, so that EMMS and EMMS PTA can purchase a class T-shirt for EVERY 8th-grade student. EMMS GENERAL NEWS

Please Return EMMS Media Books/Materials: Students, please take some time to locate overdue library books and play-a-ways that you borrowed either from our EMMS Media Center or from your elementary schools last year. You may return all media items to the permanent return bin in front of EMMS 24/7! If you have any questions about library items, please reach out to our EMMS Media Center staff: donna_monger@hcpss.org or christina_batelka@hcpss.org. Thank you for your cooperation!   Returning Textbooks: There are three ways for you to return borrow textbooks. 
  1. Bring the textbook back with you when you come to a distribution event.
  2. You are welcome to drop off any textbooks any weekday 7 am to 3 pm. There is a cart in the vestibule on the left that you may simply place the book there. 
  3. Please feel free to drop the textbook in the Media Center bin located under the overhang at the top of the bus loop any day, any time.

  • As we look ahead to next year, I invite you to join the Mt. Hebron Marching Unit as a member of the MtH Colorguard. The MtH Colorguard (known as the Cavaliers) spin flags and manipulates other props, adding an important visual element to the Marching Unit. This auxiliary group is open to any Mt. Hebron student interested in being a part of our family. No prior experience is required, and students do not have to be enrolled in a performing ensemble to participate.  Color Guard is a non-graded, extra-curricular activity. So… talk it up with your friends and get involved.   • SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS - Due to Covid restrictions, unfortunately, Mt Hebron High School is unable to hold camps this summer.

HCPSS Community News / Events: Families can quickly discover educational and recreational resources, events, and after-school programs offered by community non-profits on HCPSS’s new Community News and Programs website.
  Virtual HoCo Rainbow Conference: Saturday, May 15, 2021, 8:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m., virtual session High school students, staff, parents (who may bring their middle school-aged children), and community members are invited to attend this free conference, designed to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and provide education and support to the HCPSS community. Find more information and register online.   Tobacco Awareness Program for Teens: Wednesday, May 19, 1:30-3 p.m., virtual meeting Open to students, parents, educators, and the community, this free program will provide information about the risks of tobacco use, and enable students to assess their own usage patterns and to learn skills to adopt healthier lifestyles. More information and the enrollment form is available online.   Free Parenting Classes: HC DrugFree and the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, partnering with HCPSS and the Health Department, will once again provide evidence-based classes for families to gain skills and knowledge to reduce the risk that their children will engage in risky behaviors including using drugs. This 4-class series for parents of 9 to14-year-olds will be held on Zoom from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 1, 8.
